Starlink: Why Elon Musk’s SpaceX Is Launching Thousands of Satellites?

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is launching thousands of satellites into Earth’s orbit.
Some people even say that such satellites have been seen in the sky.
They are all part of the Starlink project to provide high-speed Internet service from space to remote parts of the Earth.

What is Starlink?

Starlink provides Internet service through a wide network of satellites.
It is intended for people who live in remote areas and do not have access to high-speed Internet.
Starlink’s satellites are placed in low orbit around the Earth with the aim of increasing the speed of communication between each other and the speed of the Internet on Earth.
Starlink is thought to have put about 3,000 satellites into space since 2018. Chris Hall said the project could house 10,000 to 12,000 satellites in the future.

How much does Starlink cost and who uses it?

Starlink is not cheap compared to the traditional internet service providers like Worldlink, NTC or Ncell.
Its cost is 99 dollars per month i.e. about 12,500 Nepalese rupees.
Its equipment required for communication with the satellite costs 549 dollars i.e. about 70 thousand Nepalese rupees.
Starlink has reached 36 different countries in North America, Europe and Australia.
In many developed countries of the world, 90 percent of the population has access to the Internet.
The company says it has 40,000 customers in 36 different countries, with most customers in North America, Europe and Australia.
Next year, Starlink plans to further increase its reach in Africa, South America and Asia, where internet access is thin.

How is Starlink helping Ukraine?

Can the internet be turned off?
As Russian forces advanced into Ukraine, they shut down Ukraine’s Internet services and tried to block social networks.
Musk provided Starlink to Ukraine shortly after the Russian attack began. 15,000 Starlink devices were shipped to this country.
“Starlink kept everything going, like government and public services,” says Chris Hall.
“The Russian soldiers couldn’t find a way to disable it.”
“Ukrainian soldiers are also using it for communication between headquarters and troops in the field,” says Marina Miron, a defense studies researcher at King’s College London.
“Its signals are not interrupted like normal radio signals. It also only takes 15 minutes to connect the device.”

Did Starlink cause chaos in space?

A single rocket launched 49 Starlink satellites in February
Apart from Starlink, its satellite Internet service competitors OneWeb and Viasat are also placing thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit.
Recently, Starlink satellites have seen near-collision incidents.
One of which nearly hit the Chinese space station.
Starlink’s satellites are also creating problems for astronauts.
They are visible to the naked eye at sunrise and sunset as sunlight reflects off their wings.
They also make dots on the pictures taken from the telescope and even block stars and planets.
